Personal Statement:
When I left college in the summer of 2005 I really wanted to stay involved with the fraternity. I knew that the best way would be to become a volunteer with the General Fraternity, but with my planned proposal to my wife looming only a few months away I knew that would not fit into my plans. So when I moved home to southern California I attempted to stay involved with my chapter at Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. It was shortly thereafter that I came to truly understand why they call in “phoning it in.” The passion and drive was there, but without the face to face contact the effect just was not the same.
One night over dinner with my parents I was lamenting about my inability to contribute directly to my chapter’s future when my father asked if I’d be interested in helping another chapter out, more correctly the new colony at UC – Irvine. It was the founding fathers’ drive and commitment to the success and eventual chartering of the chapter that ensnared me. I saw in these amazing young men the same determination and dedication that pours from the stories of Pater Knox and the other founders of ever honored memory. It was then that I knew I could once again be a part of something truly great and I have had the honor of seeing these young men grow and see them pass their passion onto the next generation of Beta gentlemen at UC-Irvine.
